Sonic partners with Brentwood to bring high-speed Internet to town

BRENTWOOD -- Computers were once outnumbered by cherry trees and livestock here. But now, about half the households in this rural community are technologically equipped to be the envy of Web browsers, bloggers and gamers across the nation.

That's because last week, the city celebrated its official "lighting up" of a broadband Internet service that is able to provide net speed measured in gigabits per second -- yes, gigabits -- for more than 8,000 households. In a world where 60 megabits per second is considered fast, this move will put residents who opt-in among the nation's fastest Web users, and make the city one of a small handful of communities in the United States where such speeds are available to residents...
