Q1. What’s the difference between Scenarist Publisher Studio and Scenarist Publisher Professional?
Scenarist Publisher Professional’s Project Builder includes a built-in multiplexing engine making it a truly stand-alone authoring workstation. In order to multiplex titles created using Scenarist Publisher Studio, you need the import projects into your existing Scenarist SD system and multiplex them as usual. The Form Builder components are identical in both versions.
Q2. What’s the difference between Scenarist Publisher Professional and Scenarist Publisher Enterprise Edition?
There are three key differences between Scenarist Publisher Professional and Scenarist Publisher Enterprise Edition, the way the forms are made, the way projects are built, and the way the finished titles are multiplexed:
- Form Building - Scenarist Publisher Professional’s Form Builder automatically generates Form’s from Scenarist SD script files. Once the form has been generated, it is possible to configure the form by selecting which title components can be changed when the form is used in the Project Builder (e.g. menu background, audio streams etc.). The Form Builder included with the Enterprise Edition offers a completely customizable Form Building environment enabling facilities to create custom forms specific to certain types of jobs. As well as creating custom forms, it is also possible to customize the way the forms are completed in the Project Builder.
- Project Building - Scenarist Publisher Professional’s Project Builder is a piece of software hosted on a stand-alone PC and activated using a USB security dongle (similar to a traditional authoring system). The Project Builder’s in the Enterprise Edition are remote. This means that any computer in the world can log on via Internet Explorer, complete a form, and send a finished title the MuxServer. For facilities using the Enterprise Edition on a company intranet, this capability enables every single computer in a facility to become an authoring station (note that the number of simultaneous connections is limited depending on the number of project builder licenses purchased).
- Multiplexing - Titles created using Scenarist Publisher Professional are multiplexed on the machine hosting the Project Builder. The Project Builder features a ‘Multiplex’ button that verifies the form and multiplexes the title (similar to a traditional authoring program). Titles created using the Enterprise Edition are sent to a stand-alone MuxServer (either housed in the same building or on the other side of the world) which takes the incoming project, adds it to the multiplexing queue, and then multiplexes the project, freeing up the Project Builder seat from any multiplexing tasks enabling it to carry on turning out titles.
Q3. Can I import projects into Scenarist Publisher’s Form Builder that have been made using authoring programs other than Scenarist SD?
At the moment, version 1.0 of the Form Builder only supports Scenarist SD script files for form generation. However, the Form Builder included with the Enterprise Edition can generate forms from scratch without using a Scenarist SD script file as a starting point.
Q4. Can I configure my facility to include a customized number of Form and Project Builders or do I have to buy the Studio and Professional bundles?
This is one of the many features that gives Publisher its incredible efficiency: you can customize your workgroup and workflow to suit your set-up exactly. Depending on the numbers of existing systems and authors in your facility, you can customize your Publisher workgroup to feature any number of Form Builder and Project Builder seats. All of the Enterprise components are also fully customizable.
Q5. Can I configure my facility to include a stand-alone multiplexer on its own station?
At present, this is only possible using the Enterprise MuxServer. For the Studio and Professional versions, the multiplexing either takes place on an existing Scenarist SD system or using the Project Builder including with Scenarist Publisher Professional.
Q6. Why doesn’t the Enterprise Edition include a local Project Builder?
Scenarist Publisher Enterprise Edition uses remote Project Builder seats in order to take advantage of the centralized MuxServer and transferable project building licenses. The local Project Builders included with Publisher Studio and Professional are not capable of sending completed titles to the centralized MuxServer and are keyed to a specific PC.
