A: CineVision and CineVision PSE offer very different approaches to encoding. CineVision PSE is a VC-1 encoder that offers an unprecedented level of parameter control in a render-farm configuration. As such it has greater configuration requirements (typically a Blade server) but given that set-up it can achieve exceptional results. CineVision offers all 3 video codecs within a single workstation configuration. Highly optimized for multiple processor cores and having unrivalled coverage for different target applications/resolutions/frame-rates, it delivers stunning quality encodes for all aspects of Blu-ray Disc and SD DVD-Video production.

A: Surprisingly, in today's climate this isn't the case. Each codec has different strengths and weaknesses and there is demand for all of them from different content publishers. For example, although the least technologically advanced, MPEG-2 is the fastest to encode and places the least strain on decoders. And because Blu-ray Disc allows for much higher bit rates and disc capacities, it can also look great.

A: CineVision supports a wide range of input formats including QuickTime^®, AVI, and DPX RGB 10-bit image sequences - all of which will produce excellent results. However, in order to capture to these formats from external tape devices you will need a third-party capture solution. A: CineVision has been optimized to take full advantage of the multiple processor cores within our recommended system configurations. Real-time encode speeds can be achieved at the highest resolutions including 1920x1080. Please note that it is important to have sufficiently fast local storage for uncompressed source media to ensure that data can be fed to the encoder quickly.

A: Yes. CineVision has dedicated legalization for SD DVD-Video encoding. Add to that the ground-breaking MPEG-2 technology within the system and the versatility of CineVision is clear to see.

A: CineVision's ground-breaking video analysis system means that the quality of your encoded video is completely optimized with just two passes saving you valuable production time.

A: Sonic CineVision automatically analyzes the PSNR (Peak Signal-to-noise Ratio) during encoding by comparing each encoded frame with the original source frame to give a value which represents how similar they are. ExpressQC rapidly searches the entire encoded stream for segments that fall below a specified threshold, or simply for the specified number of segments with the worst PSNR rating. This accelerates the QC process by instantly highlighting segments which may benefit from being re-encoded at a higher bit rate.

A: Sonic CineVision packages that include all video codecs include the DTS-HD Master Audio Suite encoder software from DTS, giving users the flexibility to encode all DTS codecs on a separate station to the CineVision video encoding application. The DTS-HD Master Audio Suite is an optional extra for some CineVision systems, please consult your Sonic representative for pricing information.
