Sonic Extended Developer Group Streamlines Production of Interactive Games for HD Titles

New EDGe Partners Enable Non-programmers to Quickly Create Highly Interactive Game Content for HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc Titles

Amsterdam, The Netherlands-IBC (September 7, 2007) — Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the leader in digital media software, today announced the expansion of its Extended Developer Group (EDGe) with new developers offering innovative solutions that enable the creation of high-definition interactive games for HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc titles without the need for staff with computer science backgrounds and extensive knowledge of custom programming languages or techniques.

Building on their proven point-and-click development environments for interactive games, new EDGe participants, Clickteam and The Game Creators, are introducing applications that verify and export format-compliant advanced content for the new high-definition packaged media formats. Designed to work seamlessly with Sonic’s industry-proven Scenarist® authoring systems, EDGe developers’ products such as those from Clickteam and The Game Creators will greatly streamline the production of game-oriented bonus content and make it significantly easier for Hollywood studios and professional content holders to add compelling extras to their HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc titles.

Clickteam (www.clickteam.com) founded in 1994 and based in Paris, France, will offer gaming support for BD-Java, the highly interactive programming language for the Blu-ray Disc format via the company’s Multimedia Fusion for Blu-ray application. Multimedia Fusion for Blu-ray is an extended version of Clickteam’s core Multimedia Fusion application that provides drag-and-drop creation of complex 2-D games. Completed games can be optimized not only for BD but also for the PC, Java (Mac and Linux), portable media products (PMPs), and the Internet.

"Sonic is the clear leader in supplying authoring technology to the DVD and Blu-ray Disc creation industry; in partnering with them through their EDGe program, we are able to offer our Multimedia Fusion customers another important platform for sharing their work," said François Lionet, president of Clickteam. "Joining Sonic’s EDGe program allows us to tap into the new market of Blu-ray publishers who want creative bonus material for their titles without the expensive and time-consuming programming normally associated with building highly interactive games."

For the HD DVD platform, The Game Creators, based in Wigan, England, are introducing HD Game Maker, which will support the export of Scenarist-ready games created for playback in HD DVD Advanced Content (HDi) mode. HD Game Maker allows users to quickly and easily create a variety of exciting 2D games for playback from an HD DVD-capable device using a standard remote control.

"By embracing the high-definition medium early on, our intention is to be the leading tool provider in the interactive games creation market," said Rick Vanner, owner of The Game Creators. "Participating in the Sonic EDGe program offers us a clear path toward that goal. Thanks to Sonic, we are able to help pioneer easy gaming creative for HD DVD, while at the same time expanding our market for our own innovative, powerful, and affordable game-making solutions."

Offering an efficient alternative to the time-consuming process of custom-coding advanced functionality, the Sonic EDGe program harnesses talent from across the spectrum of the authoring and software communities to facilitate the development and distribution of ready-made solutions that enhance high-definition titles with rich, innovative entertainment experiences. EDGe provides tools and support to enable the successful definition, creation, and marketing of Scenarist-compatible capabilities that can be adapted for use in multiple projects and includes access to Sonic’s Quality Assurance Team and worldwide sales channels. In addition to Clickteam and The Game Creators, other new European EDGe members include mix360 Ltd. of Surrey, UK, and Silicon Philosophies of Augsburg, Germany.

Sonic will be demonstrating BD and HD DVD tools from Sonic EDGe members at IBC (Stand 7.730), September 7-11, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. For further information on the EDGe program please email Sonic at edge@sonic.com.
