Sonic Fuels High-Definition Adoption in Europe

New Licensing Agreements with High-end Professional Authoring Facilities Signal Strong Growth for Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD Title Development

Amsterdam, The Netherlands - IBC (September 7, 2007) — Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the leader in digital media software, today announced that a number of the top authoring facilities in Europe have moved to capture the European high-definition authoring market by implementing Sonic’s industry-leading Scenarist® authoring and CineVision™ compression systems for HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc (BD) title development. The facilities initiating and expanding their HD authoring services with Sonic in the past quarter affirm the strong growth of authoring capacity for Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD formats across Europe as more professional content preparation business owners invest in systems to meet the rising demand for blue-laser based title publishing.

"Sonic was the clear choice when we recognized the time was right to engage our high-definition service business," said Robert Schneider, Studio Manager at GLS Studios GmbH. "Sonic’s history of investment and commitment to the professional content creation industry is clearly evident whether it is their creation of the High Definition Authoring Alliance or simply the billions of DVDs that Scenarist has helped create. Sonic has been a tremendous support during our years in DVD-Video production, and we are confident that they will continue to be an ideal partner to help us address the complexities of highly-interactive and reliable next-generation titles."

"Sonic is the only company that has the knowledge, experience and commitment to the professional content prep industry that meets the demands of both the technical and business leads at high-end post production facilities worldwide," said Rolf Hartley, general manager of Sonic’s Professional Products Group in Novato, California. "We are delighted with the faith our customers have shown in us and their choice to reinvest in Sonic as we welcome the start of the growth cycle in high-definition authoring across Europe."

Representing a wide range of authoring houses, from large facilities developing content for major Hollywood studios, to smaller companies developing specialty content, these latest customers join a long list of European facilities that have updated their state-of-the-art production suites with Sonic technology:

"Sonic’s deep understanding of the technology behind HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats, combined with the company’s market leadership in professional authoring applications and a reputation for unmatched support, makes them the ideal partner," said Alex Ponti, CEO of Digital Studio &#amp; DVD. "We are confident that with Sonic’s cutting-edge technology and close links to both the HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc Associations, we are in an excellent position to grow our high-definition authoring business for the new formats."
