Sonic Extends Roxio Market Leadership in 2005

Strong Sales Performance Confirms Success of Strategic Acquisition

Novato, California (February 14, 2006) - Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the leader in digital media software, today reaffirmed the success of its strategic acquisition of Roxio®, announcing significant retail growth for the software division in 2005. According to NPD Group figures, which track retail sell-through in North America, the market share for Roxio-branded applications grew by almost 10%, both in terms of both units and revenue, to 36% and 49% respectively*. Easy Media Creator 8, which combines powerful technologies from Sonic and Roxio, was the choice for holiday shoppers this season outpacing its nearest competitor by a margin of 2-to-1 in December alone.

"Our retail performance in 2005 reaffirms the successful integration of the Roxio brand and technologies into Sonic Solutions," said Mark Ely, executive vice president of strategy, Sonic Solutions. "This is a clear representation of the successful strategy that we laid out a year ago when we purchased Roxio to connect our large install base of Sonic OEM-bundled application users with our Roxio retail products."

Sonic's retail leadership was driven in 2005 through number one category rankings for Roxio-branded applications on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms. Roxio Toast led the way as the premier CD and DVD creation suite on the Mac, while Roxio Easy Media Creator was the clear digital media software choice for Windows users. Sonic's distribution network now spans over 12,000 store fronts throughout North America and includes key placements in leading retail outlets including CompUSA, Best Buy, and Apple Stores. The company also has retail and online distribution throughout Europe and Asia-Pacific countries.

"Digital media creation and recording software is continuing to generate significant interest," said Brian Woods, executive vice president and general merchandise manager for CompUSA, Inc. "Roxio, with a long history of delivering compelling features in each new version release, has established a solid reputation as a brand that delivers high value products with strong consumer appeal."
