Sonic AuthorScript Selected by Pure Digital for Use in New One-Time-Use Digital Video Camcorder Platform

Pure Digital Cameras Available at CVS/pharmacy, Rite Aid and Other Major U.S. Retailers

Novato, California (December 13, 2005) - Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the leader in digital media software, today announced that its AuthorScript® Video DVD creation engine has been selected by Pure Digital Technologies, Inc., for use in its new one-time-use digital video camcorder platform. The new, affordable digital video camcorders, developed by Pure Digital Technologies and marketed under individual retail store brands, are currently available at more than 6,000 CVS/pharmacy and Rite Aid stores nationwide, with additional expansion expected with other major U.S. retail chains.

The sub-$30, five-ounce pocket-sized Pure Digital Technologies one-time-use digital video camcorders record up to 20 minutes of digital video on internal memory. They offer consumers an easy-to-use and convenient way to capture high-quality digital video without investing hundreds of dollars in a conventional video camera. After shooting their video, consumers return the camera to the store where Pure Digital's proprietary video processing platform formats the content and burns a high-quality DVD utilizing Sonic's AuthorScript Video technology.

"We are very pleased with our decision to select Sonic's AuthorScript Video technology," said Ariel Braunstein, CTO of Pure Digital Technologies. "With AuthorScript Video, we were able to quickly integrate Sonic's proven DVD creation technology into our product while keeping costs low, which helped to bring the one-time-use digital video camcorder to market quickly."

Sonic AuthorScript is the industry standard for a broad range of developers requiring a quick and easy solution for integrating robust DVD and CD recording and playback capabilities into their products, including hardware and software applications, music download sites, consumer electronics devices, and products incorporating the next-generation high-definition DVD formats. AuthorScript gives its users the assurance that their DVDs are of the highest quality and are compatible with virtually all of the world's more than one billion DVD players.

"The launch of a one-time-use digital video camera opens up digital video and DVD to a whole new channel of users," said Jim Taylor, general manager of Sonic's Advanced Technology Group. "Similar to the disposable camera market, which made photography inexpensive and accessible for the masses, consumers can now experience the power of digital video for one-tenth the cost of a conventional camcorder. We are delighted that Pure Digital is making digital video technology more accessible to consumers, and expect that one-time-use video cameras will further accelerate the growth of the digital video industry."
