Sonic DigitalMedia Software Suite Now Shipping on HP Notebook PCs

Provides Business and Consumer Notebook Customers with Award-Winning MyDVD and RecordNow

Marin County, California (June 28, 2005) — Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the leader in digital media software, today announced that Sonic MyDVD® for DVD creation and video editing, and Easy Archive™ for archiving and data backup, have been added to HP’s current Sonic bundle of RecordNow®, Drive Letter Access™ (DLA), and Express Labeler™ applications on new HP business and consumer notebook PCs. The suite of applications, known as DigitalMedia™ Plus, features a central task-based application hub and streamlined user interface(1).

“We are very excited that HP notebook PC customers will now have the opportunity to experience the ease of use and convenience that our DigitalMedia Plus software suite provides,” said Stan Wong, general manager of Roxio, a division of Sonic Solutions. “Both consumer and professional users alike will appreciate the multi-level functionality that the suite provides, allowing them to manage and edit digital media files and projects anytime, anywhere and achieve professional quality results.”
Digital Media Plus is architected to give OEMs the flexibility to select multiple Sonic application modules and create custom software offerings for different markets and SKUs. For consumer notebooks, HP has configured a version of DigitalMedia Plus that includes music and data mastering on CD and DVD, video editing and DVD creation, archiving and data backup, and CD/DVD labeling with LightScribe™ technology. For business users, HP has added functionality for drag-and-drop packet writing of files to DVD and CD (DLA) which allows users to simply drag and drop their files directly to a recordable CD or DVD. Sonic’s award-winning MyDVD and RecordNow applications are included on new versions of HP notebooks, and HP offers these users a path to easily upgrade to Sonic’s complete line of DigitalMedia products online or in retail locations worldwide.

“Our customers are looking for notebooks that meet a variety of needs, including mobility, versatility and ease of use,” said Tom Mitchell, vice president and general manager, Consumer Notebook Global Business Unit, HP. “The integration of Sonic’s DigitalMedia Plus provides our mobile computing customers with a greater level of functionality as well as the ability to edit and update existing presentations, slideshows and other projects saved on DVD discs in a matter of minutes, wherever they may be.”

Sonic’s Easy Archive application makes synchronizing, backing up and archiving important files to and from a notebook PC extremely simple. Easy Archive also offers automated file search by file extension for backup and archiving. Synchronizing, backup and archiving can be scheduled to automatically occur according to a time or event, freeing users from worries about whether or not their files are backed up regularly.

In addition to centralizing and streamlining most digital media tasks, DigitalMedia Plus allows multiple Sonic applications to run simultaneously and share Sonic’s powerful CD/DVD formatting and burning engine. For OEMs, the DigitalMedia Plus architecture saves substantial time in testing and qualifying applications and lowers the CPU processing resources required to run complex digital media software tasks. For end users, DigitalMedia Plus greatly streamlines the management of digital media by allowing them to perform multiple tasks, such as archiving photos to DVD and importing an audio CD simultaneously.
