SnapStream Chooses Sonic AuthorScript®-PVR to Power Personal Video
Recording
Solution for the PC
Marin County, California (June 6, 2003) Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ:
SNIC) announced today that SnapStream Media, a leading developer of digital
entertainment software, has selected the Sonic AuthorScript-PVR software development
kit (SDK) as the MPEG encoding and time-shifting engine for their PC-based
TV recording software, Personal Video Station 3. Complementing the Windows
Media format supported in earlier versions of Personal Video Station, AuthorScript-PVR
greatly extends the functionality and compatibility of Personal Video Station,
adding support for MPEG compression - the most popular video recording and
playback standard.
"The Sonic AuthorScript-PVR SDK has allowed us to meet our market objectives
of giving users the ability to pause and rewind live television. Additionally,
Personal Video Station 3's use of the AuthorScript-PVR MPEG-compression engine
means users can take their favorite TV recordings made with SnapStream and
burn them to DVD using third-party software," said Rakesh Agrawal, President
and CEO, SnapStream Media. "It's our goal to improve our customers' home
entertainment experience, and by incorporating Sonic's software we are able
to provide them with a complete solution for personal video recording and time-shifting
using the MPEG format."
SnapStream Personal Video Station 3 gives users complete control of their
TV recording experience. SnapStream's powerful new program guide, SnapStream.NET,
lets users record every episode of a favorite TV show with a single click.
A comprehensive search engine allows the user to quickly find and record their
favorite programs while a new "trick-play" function allows users
to pause, rewind and fast forward live television. SnapStream offers an ideal
solution for existing PCs owners who want a powerful yet simple way to record
programs on their PC.
"We are pleased that our encoding, stream-handling, and time-shifting
technology was selected by SnapStream to augment the newest version of their
industry-leading digital video recording software," said Jim Taylor, General
Manager of Sonic's Advanced Technology Group. "Our collaboration with
SnapStream gives home PC users the flexibility to record programs for playback
on the plentiful selection of MPEG-compatible devices."
SnapStream Personal Video Station Version 3 is available at a suggested retail
price of $99.99 at Amazon.com and from SnapStream at www.snapstream.com.
As a special promotion during the launch, the software will be available for
the price of Version 2.0, $49.99.
