Sonic™ Ships PrimeTime™ for Microsoft Windows XP Media
Center Edition
Enables DVD Burning of Recorded TV Shows from the Comfort of a Sofa
Marin County, California (June 30, 2003) - Sonic Solutions (Nasdaq: SNIC),
the leader in DVD creation software, announced today that it is now shipping
Sonic
PrimeTime, the world’s first DVD recording application designed exclusively
for Windows XP Media Center Edition. Available for purchase on the Sonic e-store
(www.estore.sonic.com) for $79.99, Sonic PrimeTime intuitively builds upon
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition, making it easy to archive recorded
TV shows
onto DVD discs that can be played on any of the hundreds of millions of DVD
players worldwide.
“Sonic PrimeTime is precisely the type of Media Center application that
many users have been looking for," said Kevin Eagan, General Manager for
the Windows eHome Division, Microsoft. “PrimeTime makes great use of the
design innovations and user-friendliness of Windows XP Media Center Edition to
enable consumers
with a Media Center PC to store personal content onto DVDs with just one click
of the Media Center remote control.”
Designed to complement Windows XP Media Center Edition, Sonic PrimeTime uses
a “10-foot” user interface, making its operation in the living
room via the Media Center remote control a snap. Employing the same program
information
and sorting functionality as Media Center, PrimeTime makes it fast and easy
to browse, select, and burn favorite recorded shows to DVD or Video CD. The
recorded
shows can then be played back on standard set-top DVD players and DVD-equipped
PCs.
“Sonic PrimeTime clearly revolutionizes the way people interact with their
recorded TV shows,” said Mark Ely, Senior Vice President for Strategic Planning
at Sonic. “Intuitively building upon the Windows XP Media Center experience,
Sonic PrimeTime makes it possible for users to move seamlessly from enjoying
a TV show to burning their programs to DVD. Anyone who can watch TV can now
create their own high-quality DVD compilations using the Media Center remote
control.”
Sonic PrimeTime features include:
-
TV Show Browser – Sonic PrimeTime uses the same sorting options as
Media Center itself. Users can sort through TV shows by date, genre, or alphabetically,
simplifying the selection of programs for burning to DVD.
- One-Click DVD Burning – Once you have selected your TV shows in
the PrimeTime browser, burning them to DVD is a one-click operation. Sonic
PrimeTime automatically
creates Hollywood-style DVD menus, inserts chapter points for easy navigation,
and burns the final content to DVD or Video CD.
- Dolby Digital encoding – Sonic PrimeTime encodes theatre-quality Dolby
Digital audio, creating the finest in stereo sound. In addition, Dolby’s
state-of-the-art audio compression allows even more shows to be added to your
DVD by maximizing the available disc space.

PrimeTime puts the power of DVD burning in the palm of users’ hands - literally.
Inspired by Media Center’s large-screen menus, Sonic PrimeTime makes
it fast and easy for users to find, select, and burn their favorite shows onto
DVDs
or Video CDs with just a few clicks of the Media Center’s remote
control. Sonic PrimeTime is now available for purchase on the Sonic e-store
(estore.sonic.com)
