Sonic Releases MyDVD® for Windows XP Media Center Edition
PCs
Enables Media Center TV Programs to be Recorded to Discs
Compatible with Standard DVD Players
Las Vegas, Nevada (January 9, 2003) — Sonic Solutions [NASDAQ: SNIC]
introduced today at the International CES convention a new version of MyDVD
that burns DVDs of TV shows and other video content recorded by Microsoft’s
Windows XP Media Center Edition. Sonic MyDVD 4 for Windows XP Media Center
Edition adds DVD recording to the Media Center entertainment experience so
that consumers can easily select and burn recorded TV shows, slideshows, videos
and other digital entertainment to DVD recordable discs and play them back
on any standard PC-based or set-top DVD player. The recorded DVDs support Sonic’s
OpenDVD® technology and can be re-edited at any time using MyDVD or other
OpenDVD-enabled applications.
“Sonic’s decision to support Windows XP Media Center Edition by
delivering custom DVD burning features reflects growing consumer demand to
use Media Center
PCs as the hub for a wide variety of new home entertainment experiences," said
Kevin Eagan, General Manager, Windows eHome Division, Microsoft. “Feedback
from Windows users has been strong and clear — consumers want simple,
convenient ways to store personal content onto DVDs.”
Sonic MyDVD is the leading DVD recording and editing application for home
users. With its ability to record analog and digital video (DV) in real-time
into
MPEG-2 for DVD, MyDVD is the fastest and easiest way to share treasured video
memories with friends and family on DVD discs, from wedding videos to children's
birthday parties and other special events. Sonic MyDVD is also the only application
that not only records Direct-to-DVD™, but also creates OpenDVD-compatible
discs that can be re-edited, allowing discs to be changed after they are initially
created. This enables an entirely new generation of DVD applications, such
as video diaries, up-to-the-minute, customized sales presentations, compilations
of family events, and more.
Media Center PCs are powered by Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition,
which turns a PC into a media center that integrates digital entertainment
experiences – including live television, personal video recording with
free electronic program guide, digital music, digital video, DVDs and digital
photos – with the freedom of remote control access. Media Center PCs
are ideal for digital media enthusiasts and consumers, such as teenagers, college
students, young adults and families who want to use their PC for entertainment
and digital media in small, space-constrained environments.
“Sonic MyDVD was designed to enable consumers to easily create and share
DVDs and Video CDs using material from their camcorders, digital cameras, or
video
files on their PC,” said Mary Sauer, Senior Vice-president and Co-founder
of Sonic Solutions. “With Sonic MyDVD for Windows XP Media Center Edition,
users can now click a single button to copy their favorite TV shows onto DVDs
to watch on a DVD player in another room, take with them on the road, or save
for later viewing.”
Sonic MyDVD for Windows XP Media Center Edition can be purchased at Sonic’s
e-store (estore.sonic.com). Registered Sonic users who have a retail version
of MyDVD 4 will be able to update their software to version 4.0.4, which includes
support for Windows XP Media Center Edition, free of charge at Sonic’s
support site (http://support.sonic.com/) beginning Monday, January 13th. Owners
of earlier versions of MyDVD can upgrade to version 4 at Sonic’s e-store.
