Metropolis DVD Expands DVD Production with Sonic
Production Capacity Doubled with Sonic Scenarist® and DVD PrePlay™
Las Vegas, Nevada (April 7, 2003) - Sonic Solutions, the world leader in
DVD creation systems, announced today at the National Association of Broadcasters
convention (NAB) that Metropolis DVD has expanded its DVD production capabilities
with new systems and technology from Sonic. Capitalizing on the robust DVD-Video
market in New York and on its reputation as an innovative and creative provider
of DVD production services, Metropolis DVD, New York City’s premier DVD
design and production house, has added four Sonic Scenarist workstations and
a Sonic DVD PrePlay emulation system to its current installation of four Sonic
DVD Creator® systems. The new systems also complement Metropolis DVD’s
next-generation Sonic SD-2000 MPEG-2 encoders and will be utilized for high-end
commercial production, music video, and feature film DVD encoding and authoring.
Sonic Scenarist is designed to meet the demanding requirements of professional
authoring facilities looking for a powerful, feature-rich solution to produce
titles for commercial and feature film distribution. Today, the majority of “Hollywood” DVDs
are designed using Scenarist. Scenarist offers the ability to create DVDs with
complex navigation, compelling and elaborate menu design, and the maximum in
DVD player compliance and compatibility. DVD PrePlay, Sonic’s Windows-based
DVD-Video emulation system, allows professional DVD production facilities to
simplify and enhance their quality assurance procedures and will provide Metropolis
DVD with a faster and more efficient workflow for DVD title creation."
We are extremely pleased to add Sonic Scenarist and DVD PrePlay to our full
line of DVD services at Metropolis DVD,” said Dave Anthony, President
of Design and Production at Metropolis DVD. “Having worked with Sonic
since the very beginning, we have been able to produce many blockbuster DVDs
such as Traffic
and Do The Right Thing, as well as music titles such as The World According
to Nappy, a disc designed and produced from the beginning as an interactive
DVD,
and the first DVD-only title to be nominated for a Grammy® award. Now that
it’s time to expand our cutting-edge facility, we know that Sonic DVD
technology will deliver what we need now and in the future.”
"Metropolis
DVD’s clients have come to expect the most creative titles and
the highest-possible quality in DVD production,” said Rolf Hartley, Vice
President and General Manager of the Professional Products Group at Sonic. “We
are extremely pleased that Metropolis DVD has chosen to double its capacity
with Sonic, and we are confident that our Scenarist and DVD Preplay products
will
deliver beyond their expectations.
About the Sonic Scenarist Range of Products
With its extremely precise control of the DVD specification and the unequaled
DVD-player compatibility of the titles
it produces, Scenarist has become the backbone of the commercial DVD industry
and is used to design and create the vast majority of blockbuster DVDs, feature
releases, and high-end commercial titles available today.
Sonic Scenarist is available in three editions. Scenarist Studio offers a
focused feature set for filmmakers and multimedia designers seeking advanced
access to
the DVD specification at an affordable price. Scenarist Studio includes
the ability to create DVD-9 titles, work with 16:9 video content, and create
DVDs
with up
to three camera angles. Scenarist Advanced adds copy protection, regional
coding and closed caption support to the feature list. Scenarist Professional
is the
full-featured Hollywood-standard authoring tool used to create millions
of DVD discs in commercial release. Scenarist Professional gives users the
most
complete
level of control over the DVD specification and allows for the most interactive
titles with up to nine video angles, DTS support, Text Data, Jacket Pictures
and many other features. All editions use the same user interface and the
same reliable and proven project and layout engine to ensure the most compatible
discs.
About DVD PrePlay
Designed to meet the demanding requirements of professional authoring facilities
producing titles for commercial distribution, DVD PrePlay provides detailed
auditing of DVD playback functions as the disc plays through the DVD volume
structure
of DVD-5 or DVD-9 DVD image files. DVD Preplay includes hardware with Y/C video
output and SPDIF digital audio output to accurately portray the experience
consumers will have when a replicated disc is ultimately viewed on a standard
DVD player.
DVD PrePlay is a comprehensive diagnostic tool, providing accurate viewing of
all SPRM and GPRM parameters during emulation as well as Text Data support. With
line-by-line debug mode and command sequence logging output, DVD PrePlay allows
authors to verify the interactivity programmed into any DVD disc. This essential
analysis of a DVD title not only accelerates the debugging process during authoring,
but also verifies the functionality of finished discs even after they have been
replicated, providing the ability to compare final discs with pre-replicated
DVD masters to check the integrity of the manufacturing process.
