Memorex Selects Sonic MyDVD for New DVD+RW/+R Drives

Memorex's First DVD Recorder Powered by World's Leading DVD Software

Marin County, California (October 7, 2002) – Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ: SNIC) announced today that Memorex Products, Inc., the industry sales leader of digital optical media products, has selected Sonic MyDVD® as the editing and authoring software for the new DVD+RW/+R Internal ReWritable Drive. With Sonic MyDVD, the new Memorex DVD+RW/+R Super Combo Drive lets users record up to 4.7 gigabytes of videos, photos and audio files on DVD+R and rewritable DVD+RW media.

"Memorex is committed to providing consumers with the best-possible solution for creating DVDs and CDs on their PC – that's why we chose Sonic MyDVD," said Michael Golacinski, President and COO of Memorex. "Sonic has long been at the forefront of DVD technology, and their MyDVD application delivers the robust performance and ease-of-use that are hallmarks of the Memorex brand."

Sonic MyDVD is the first-ever DVD recording and editing application for personal computers. With its ability to record analog and digital video (DV) in real-time into MPEG-2 for DVD, MyDVD is the fastest and easiest way to share treasured video memories with friends and family on DVD discs from wedding videos to children's birthday parties and other special events.

MyDVD allows users to capture video to a DVD or CD, just like recording onto a VCR. It also includes built-in software transcoding that automatically converts all video formats into those compatible with DVD players, freeing the user from the headaches of determining DVD file compatibility.

Sonic MyDVD is the only application that not only records Direct-to-DVD®, but also creates DVDs that can be re-edited. Using Sonic's advanced Edit-on-DVD™ technology to create and edit discs that are compatible with the new OpenDVD® format allows discs to be changed after they are initially created. This enables an entirely new generation of DVD applications, such as video diaries, up-to-the-minute, customized sales presentations, compilations of family events, and more.

"Memorex has an outstanding reputation, and we are extremely pleased to be selected as the DVD creation software for their first-ever Memorex DVD+RW/+R recorder," said Dave Habiger, Senior Vice-president and General Manager- Desktop Group at Sonic. "By combining an affordable DVD+RW/+R recorder with Sonic MyDVD software, Memorex has created a first-class solution for making DVDs at home."

The Memorex DVD+RW/+R Internal ReWritable Drive is available now at retail outlets at a suggested retail price of $379.99.
