Sonic Provides OpenDVD™ Capability, Integrated Video Editing to Latest Pioneer DVD-R/RW Drives

Marin County, California (May 30, 2002) - Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ:SNIC), the world leader in applications to create DVDs, announced today that Pioneer Electronics (USA), Inc., the leader in recordable DVD technology, has selected Sonic MyDVD 3.5 Video Suite to provide integrated DVD recording, video editing and authoring capabilities for its latest award-winning Pioneer DVR-A04 DVD/R/RW drives, the company's fourth-generation DVD recorders. By combining the Pioneer drive and Sonic MyDVD 3.5 Video Suite, Pioneer provides users of its DVR-A04 drives with the most powerful and flexible integrated application available to create, edit and burn DVDs.

"Offering Sonic MyDVD with the DVR-A04 delivers a very strong combination that takes personal video publishing to the next level," said Andy Parsons, Senior Vice-president of Industrial Video/Mass Storage Sales and Marketing, Pioneer Electronics (USA), Inc., Business Solutions Division. "With its flexibility and high compatibility with DVD playback devices, MyDVD is an ideal solution for adding value to our DVR-A04 drive."

Sonic MyDVD Video Suite enables users of Pioneer DVR-A04 drives to record videos to DVD, watch them on their TVs, and then, if they wish, put them back into their PCs to edit and update the content using Sonic's integrated technology to create OpenDVD-compliant discs. OpenDVD technology expands the possibilities for DVD by making it easy to create video diaries, up-to-the-minute customized sales presentations, family video albums and more.

MyDVD 3.5 Video Suite incorporates ArcSoft's ShowBiz video editor, enabling users to perform advanced video editing on their DVD titles, including the ability to add transitions, titles and effects.

"We are extremely pleased to be working with Pioneer to bring DVD recording to consumers and video enthusiasts," said Dave Habiger, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Desktop Product Group at Sonic. "The Pioneer bundle with Sonic MyDVD takes advantage of the latest advances in DVD technology, enabling users to publish their home movies, video memories, or corporate presentations to DVD discs that can be viewed on any of the millions of DVD players worldwide. Sonic MyDVD is the perfect complement to Pioneer's DVR-A04 DVD/R/RW drives."

About OpenDVD
OpenDVD is a revolutionary technology that makes DVD discs dynamic and changeable. Until now, DVDvideo has been a static medium; once the DVD content on a disc was finalized, making even minor modifications was a major task that required the reconstruction of the entire disc from the original source files. The OpenDVD format changes all that by incorporating a special file in the DVD-ROM "zone" of a DVD disc that contains all the information needed to open a disc as a project file in any OpenDVD-compliant application, to work with all of the disc's existing contents, and to update the project with new content, menus, and more extensive interactivity. OpenDVD-compliant discs may be revised without reference to any original source materials making every DVD a living archive of the original video project, substantially saving hard drive space, archiving media costs, and hours of time. OpenDVD technology maintains the full featureset of the DVD-Video format, and complete compatibility with recordable/rewritable DVD and CD media. OpenDVD discs are viewable in all standard DVD playback settings, from set-top players to computer-hosted DVD drives.
