Sonic Ships DVD Producer Version 3.1
Award-Winning Product Combines Ease-of-Use with "Hollywood"
Sophistication
Marin County, California (May 16, 2002) Sonic
Solutions [NASDAQ: SNIC],
today announced the release of its award-winning DVD Producer
3.1 software DVD authoring suite. Signaling a new standard
for DVD authoring, DVD Producer's revolutionary technology
recently earned it a Pick Hit of NAB 2002 award from Video
Systems magazine.
Sonic DVD Producer is an integrated and complete DVD-Video
and DVD-ROM authoring system for Windows, and incorporates
full support for the new OpenDVD standard for DVD interchange.
DVD Producer features JumpAnywhere, an advanced point-and-click
navigation programming interface that eliminates userscripting
while delivering highly-advanced interactivity. In addition,
the application also features real-time bit-for-bit project
proofing, Sonic's Hollywood-standard AuthorScript-powered
multiplexing and formatting engine, and WriteDirectsingle-step
output to the widest range of DVD-Recordable devices. DVD
Producer also includes real-time MPEG video transcoding from
FireWire and comprehensive DVD-ROM authoring, including provision
for dual-layer ROM authoring.
"DVD Producer is one of the easiest to use and yet one of
the most sophisticated authoring systems I have ever seen,"
said Steve Crozier, award-winning DVD producer at Midas Productions
in Dublin, Ireland. "DVD interactivity and navigation that
has previously taken a significant amount of user scripting
expertise is now possible with just a few clicks of the mouse.
It's truly brilliant."
DVD Producer was recently recognized at NAB 2002 by Video
Systems with their Pick Hit award, an honor determined by
a panel of judges consisting of Video Systems editors and
contributing editors, augmented by industry experts. In order
to be designated a "Pick Hit," products are judged based on
criteria such as innovation, positive impact on users' everyday
work, providing substantial improvement to previous technology,
and prices that are within the reach of the intended users.
"Sonic is fully committed to the new OpenDVD standard, and
DVD Producer provides the most comprehensive support anywhere
for this exciting format," stated Matt Palmer, Senior Product
Manager for Sonic's Professional Products Group. "DVD Producer
is built on Sonic's AuthorScript formatting engine, a standard
for commercial title production in Hollywood, and as a result
delivers an exceptional solution for professional DVD creators
that allows them to focus on what they do best create
compelling DVDs, while relying on Sonic's expertise to ensure
technical compatibility."
About OpenDVD
OpenDVD is a revolutionary technology that makes DVD discs
dynamic and changeable. Until now, DVD-video has been a static
medium; once the DVD content on a disc was finalized, making
even minor modifications was a major task that required the
reconstruction of the entire disc from the original source
files. The OpenDVD format changes all that by incorporating
a special file in the DVD-ROM "zone" of a DVD disc that contains
all the information needed to open a disc as a project file
in any OpenDVD-compliant application, to work with all of
the disc's existing contents, and to update the project with
new content, menus, and more extensive interactivity. OpenDVD-compliant
discs may be revised without reference to any original source
materials making every DVD a living archive of the original
video project, substantially saving hard drive space, archiving
media costs, and hours of time. OpenDVD technology maintains
the full feature-set of the DVD-Video format and complete
compatibility with recordable/rewritable DVD and CD media.
OpenDVDs are viewable in all standard DVD playback settings,
from set-top players to computerhosted DVD drives.
