Vingage
Adds Sonic DVD Formatting Technology to Vingage DVD Fulfillment
Server
Sonic AuthorScript Powers Services for Network, Personal
DVDs
Marin County, California (September 19, 2001) - Sonic Solutions
[NASDAQ: SNIC],
the industry's leading provider of DVD authoring applications,
announced today that Vingage Corporation has incorporated Sonic's
AuthorScript DVD formatting technology into its Vingage DVD
Fulfillment Server.
The Vingage DVD Fulfillment Server has been licensed by Vingage
to Sony Electronics, enabling Sony to offer members of its online
picture and video sharing service, ImageStation.com (www.imagestation.com),
the ability to have video footage of their memorable events
converted into professional quality DVDs.
Vingage is also licensing its Vingage DVD Fulfillment Server
to Discovery Communications Inc. Discovery Channel Video will
be offering selected programs on DVD, allowing viewers to order
the DVDs from www.discovery.com,
by telephone or through the Discovery catalog.
"Vingage is changing the way companies manage, re-purpose
and deliver video content using DVD," said Mark Ely, Vice
President of Business Development at Sonic Solutions. "The
incorporation of Sonic's DVD technology into the Vingage DVD
Fulfillment Server is enabling content providers to cost-effectively
manage and deliver DVD-quality video to consumers using a simple
web-based front-end and a sophisticated server-based back-end.
We are extremely pleased to be working with Vingage on this
ground-breaking achievement."
With over 30 million set-top DVD players and 70 million PC-based
DVD players in use worldwide, more and more consumers and businesses
are seeking to convert legacy video assets into digital DVD-Video
content that can be then viewed easily on either TV or PC and
kept on a practically indestructible DVD-Video disc. The Vingage
DVD Fulfillment Server gives content providers and publishers
a robust, "industrial strength" system for easily
managing and delivering video assets on DVD-Video.
Beginning with order tracking, the Vingage DVD Fulfillment Server
manages the encoding of video and audio content into DVD-legal
data files, can create interactive menus driven by end-user
input for chapters and background graphics, authors and records
the resulting DVD data to recordable DVDs using Sonic's AuthorScript
engine, and prints DVD labels and case inserts as well as end-user
shipping information.
With the ability to incorporate both new video content from
end-users as well as archived video and still images, content
publishers can add additional promotional material such as placements
for sponsors, advertisements, trailers and software. "Sonic
is the recognized leader in bringing new DVD production technology
to market," said Neal Manowitz, Vice President of Marketing
& Business Development for Vingage. "By integrating
Sonic's AuthorScript technology into the Vingage DVD Fulfillment
Server, we are empowering our customers with a new way of creating
and delivering high-quality video content."
