Sonic Enhances eDVD with InterActual® Player
2.0
Enables Development of Powerful Web-Connected DVD Titles
Marin County, California (September 25, 2001) -
Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ: SNIC),
the world leader in DVD production systems, announced
today a significant enhancement to its eDVD technology,
which enables DVD authors to seamlessly connect DVD
titles to the Web. Sonic eDVD now includes InterActual
Technologies Inc.'s new Player 2.0 and engine technologies.
The new eDVD player application will be included as
an output option in Sonic's professional DVD authoring
applications.
"More DVD titles are produced with Sonic authoring
applications than all other systems combined, so we're
delighted that Sonic is putting our web connection technology
in their users' hands," said Todd Collart, President
and CEO of InterActual Technologies. "Now, with
InterActual Player 2.0, Sonic can deliver on the promise
of broadband through the convergence of DVD and the
Internet ."
About Sonic eDVD
Sonic eDVD implements Hollywood-standard Web linking
technology with the DVD format, providing authoring
facilities the power to create compelling web-connected
DVD content without having to code in HTML or Java.
By simply attaching a URL to a DVD menu button or within
motion video, eDVD authors can enable web-connected
viewers to easily jump to a web site. Using an integrated
XML engine, Sonic's DVD authoring applications automatically
convert URLs and other web events into XML code that
is compiled by the integrated InterActual DVD engine
into the runtime software required for PC platforms.
This runtime player, automatically included in each
eDVD title, directs the navigation on the DVD title
to ensure perfect Web-connected playback.
About InterActual Player 2.0
The InterActual Player 2.0 is the only enabling software
application to bridge the worlds of DVD-Video and the
Internet in a single, cross-platform environment. The
player, which automatically loads and runs from eDVD-enabled
DVD titles on the PC, directly links to the DVD-Video
player resident in the computer and presents the user
with a new user interface which combines DVD-Video,
web browsing and support for Macromedia Flash playback.
With such a highly-integrated, multi-platform environment,
content developers are free to focus on authoring a
rich web-connected DVD experience.
"The InterActual 2.0 Player is the most powerful
way to connect PC-DVD users to DVD content owners,"
said Jim Taylor, Chief of DVD Technology at Sonic. "Combining
the superior video experience of DVD with the interactivity
and connectedness of PCs and the Internet makes a quantum
leap beyond stand-alone DVD titles or streaming video.
Now that eDVD includes the new InterActual Player 2.0,
it's easier than ever for professional DVD authors to
create engaging WebDVD environments for their clients
and end users."
Shipped on over 60 million DVDs worldwide, InterActual's
PCFriendly and Player 2.0 software are the industry-standard
solutions for providing interactive ROM functionality
and Web connectivity to DVD titles. Some of the best-selling
