Sonic Introduces DVD-Audio Creator
First Full-specification DVD-Audio Authoring System
Ships
Amsterdam, The Netherlands (September 18, 2001)
- Sonic Solutions [NASDAQ: SNIC]
announced today at the International Broadcasting Convention
(IBC), that DVD-Audio Creator, the world's first and
only full-specification DVD-Audio authoring system,
is now shipping. Incorporating core technology from
fellow DVD-Audio pioneer Matsushita Electric Industrial
Co., Ltd. (MEI), Sonic DVD-Audio Creator enables any
audio mastering studio or DVD-Video authoring facility
to expand their business by adding mastering for the
advanced, high-resolution DVD-Audio format.
"Sonopress has been a pioneer in DVD-Audio title
production and we are glad that Sonic has provided an
outstanding system that not only increases our efficiency,
but allows us to create even more interesting titles,"
said Wolfgang Martens, Director of Technique Premastering
at Sonopress, one of the leading producers of DVD-Audio
titles. "Sonic's introduction also adds an official
vote of confidence to the new format, one that is rapidly
gaining consumer interest and enthusiasm."
Since the origination of the DVD-Audio format, Sonic
and MEI have worked closely together to develop a suite
of DVD-Audio authoring and formatting applications.
DVD-Audio Creator is the result of over three years
of research and development, and facilitates the most
efficient creation of fully-featured, compatible DVD-Audio
titles, using a powerful, graphically-driven authoring
environment. Combined with Sonic Scenarist, DVD-Creator
or DVD Fusion, DVD-Audio Creator is uniquely equipped
to format both single-and dual-layer titles in the industry-standard
'Universal' DVD format, enabling content holders to
publish titles that are "backwards-compatible"
with the millions of DVD-Video players already installed.
"Sonic DVD-Audio Creator makes it possible to create
the most sophisticated and engaging audio titles ever,"
said Matt Palmer, DVD-Audio Product Manager at Sonic
Solutions. "Just as DVD has revolutionized video
distribution and playback, Sonic's collaboration with
MEI now delivers the solutions to power a similar advance
in the delivery of audio."
DVD-Audio Creator provides the capability to author
all nine groups, 99 tracks per group, all modes of sequential
and browseable slideshows, CPPM copy protection, scrolling
lyrics and multiple-page menus for accessing either
High-Density Audio in MLP or LPCM formats, compressed
Dolby-Digital or DTS audio and motion MPEG-2 video.
Running on Windows 2000, DVD-Audio Creator can be used
with any of Sonic's professional DVD-Video authoring
products to provide the ultimate DVD Authoring suite.
It is immediately available through Sonic's worldwide
network of professional resellers at a suggested U.S.
list price of $20,000. Visit http://www.sonic.com/sonic_resellers.html

About DVD-Audio
The DVD-Audio format builds on the success of the hugely
popular DVD-Video format. DVD-Audio is the result of
close collaboration among major recording companies,
consumer electronics manufacturers and technology suppliers.
The format incorporates breathtakingly accurate audio
reproduction by supporting sampling rates of 96kHz and
192kHz with up to 24 bits of information per sample
(compared to the CD standard of 44.1kHz and 16 bits
per sample).
With DVD-Audio, full-resolution audio can be presented
in stereo or in any channel combination up to six-channel
surround. Audio programs can be accessed interactively
and presented along with visual material including menus,
slides, and text. With DVD-Audio it is possible to use
high-resolution, 24-bit, 96kHz audio on all six channels
of a surround presentation. DVD-Audio also permits the
addition of video tracks, including many of the features
that have made DVD-Video such a runaway success.
