EIZO Nanao Corporation to Bundle Sonic DVDit!™

EIZO MediaDirector DV Production System to Include Award-winning DVD Authoring Solution

Marin County, California (June 27, 2001)
-- Sonic Solutions [NASDAQ: SNIC], the world leader in DVD authoring applications, announced today that EIZO Nanao Corporation, a leading Japanese manufacturer of award-winning CRT, LCD, plasma displays, DV production systems and other visual electronic products, will bundle Sonic DVDit! with two new models of its EIZO MediaDirector real-time DV production systems – the GP8000 with Dual CPU and DVD-R, as well as the GP5000 with Single CPU and CD-R/RW support.

With Sonic’s DVDit!, MediaDirector will provide a complete DV-to-DVD solution that allows users to edit movies in real time, select video clips and graphics, add interactive menus, preview a DVD project and then record it directly to a DVD disc in the popular DVD-Video format. The resulting DVD discs can be played on set-top DVD players as well as DVD-equipped PCs, making it possible for users to publish and share their videos on a universal medium that offers unparalleled video quality at a low cost.

“We are very pleased that EIZO Nanao has added Sonic DVDit! to their MediaDirector real-time DV production systems,” said Koki Terui, Senior Vice President of Pacific Rim Operations at Sonic Solutions. “The combination of MediaDirector with Sonic’s award-winning DVD authoring software provides a very compelling solution for creating interactive videos and multimedia presentations for a wide span of corporate and industrial uses.”

“DVD has become a universal format, and there is very strong interest among our users to create DVD-based interactive content,” said Masayuki Hashimoto, DV Production System Development Manager, of EIZO Nanao Corporation. “Sonic’s revolutionary DVDit! is a great addition to our MediaDirector line because it allows our users to publish their high-quality video and audio content onto DVD. Sonic DVDit! is the enabling application for the DVD publishing revolution.”

Both models of the EIZO MediaDirector are now shipping in Japan and are available at a retail price of 800,000 yen for the GP8000 and 500,000 yen for the GP5000.

About EIZO MediaDirector

EIZO MediaDirector provides users with real-time data processing and compound editing of video productions. MediaDirector makes it possible to conform titles and transitions – time-consuming processes for movie making – at the same time it provides real-time filtering of compound video on the display.

A dual-CPU Intel Pentium III computer with a Canopus DVStorm-RT capture card, the StormEdit editing application, and Adobe Premier 6.0 are used to provide a real-time digital video production environment.

MediaDirector’s newly-developed jog controller allows users to import images and to perform editing tasks much as they would use an analog editing scenario. In addition, high-speed data file output to DVD and other media formats are supported. The Canopus StormEncoder provides fast MPEG-2 encoding (two hours to output a two-hour movie). Adobe Photoshop LE and Sonic Solutions DVDit! SE authoring software are bundled to provide powerful digital video editing and authoring features.
