Sonic
Solutions Enhances Scenarist
New 3.0 Software Integrates Sonic SD-series Encoders and Advanced DVD Imaging
Technology into Hollywood's Premiere DVD Production System
Las Vegas, Nevada (April 24, 2001) - Sonic Solutions [NASDAQ: SNIC],
the world leader in DVD production systems, introduced today at the National
Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention, Sonic Scenarist® Version
3.0, the latest release of the most comprehensive authoring system for commercial
DVD title production. Version 3.0 incorporates Sonic's award-winning SD-series
of MPEG encoders directly into the Sonic Scenarist authoring environment,
and also adds Sonic's DVD and CD disc imaging engine, ensuring compatibility
with the widest possible range of DVD and CD recordable devices. The new
version of Scenarist is being introduced a little more than a month after
Sonic announced the acquisition of Scenarist as part of the merger of Daikin's
DVD authoring business with Sonic's professional DVD authoring line.
"Sonic's acquisition of Daikin's DVD authoring business is a natural
complement to the already diverse Sonic DVD product line," said Leon
Silverman, Executive Vice President of Laser Pacific Media Corporation (NASDAQ:LPAC),
a leading digital media laboratory based in Hollywood. "Our long-standing
relationship with both Daikin and Sonic coupled with Sonic's efforts at
integrating these tools, gives us confidence that Scenarist is in excellent
hands. This dynamic combination will help ensure that Scenarist retains
its status as the industry's premier tool for DVD production now and into
the future."
Sonic's leading MPEG-2 encoding solution for Windows, the SD-1000, is now
available as an option for Sonic Scenarist version 3.0. The SD-1000 enables
users to custom-tailor the encoding process to meet the unique needs of
any DVD project. One- or two-pass constant bit-rate (CBR) encode styles
are available, in addition to Sonic's patented variable bit-rate (VBR) MPEG-2
encoding technology. Cinematic-quality compression across even hard-to-process
areas like fades, dissolves and rapid scene changes, combined with the ability
to exercise powerful control over encoding parameters, and simultaneous
video/audio encoding, makes the SD-series of Sonic's MPEG encoders the number
one choice for any professional encoding task.
"Sonic Scenarist has been an exceptional addition to our product offering,"
said Matt Palmer, DVD Product Manager for Sonic Scenarist. "It allows
Sonic to offer the most advanced DVD authoring anywhere, augmenting the
recently-released DVD Fusion for Windows. With the integration of our SD-series
MPEG encoders, which continue to receive rave reviews from the Hollywood
crowd, we now have an unbeatable combination for Hollywood feature releases
on DVD."
Scenarist is used by Hollywood's premier post facilities to produce the
majority of commercial DVD titles in release today. Many features of the
DVD-Video specification exclusive to Sonic Scenarist - active subpicture,
jacket picture, non-seamless and seamless multi-angle switching, full karaoke
support and more - help make it the perfect choice for anyone who requires
a full specification DVD production system. Recent DVD Excellence Award-winning
titles created using Sonic Scenarist include:
- Gormenghast - Abbey Road Interactive & BBC (Navigation Design
& Implementation)
- Bob Dylan, Don't Look Back - Crush Digital Video (Subpicture Quality
& Presentation)
- The Cell - Laser Pacific Media Corp (Value & Special Features)
- Underworld Live/Everything, Everything - The Pavement (Added Value
& Special Features Audio Quality & Presentation)
