Sonic Expands OEM Offerings

OEM Sales Staff and New Products Help Hardware and Software Vendors Bring DVD Products to Market

Las Vegas, Nevada (April 23, 2001)
- Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ: SNIC) announced today that it has dramatically expanded its OEM software offerings and its sales and OEM support organization to keep up with the growing demand for DVD-enabling software publishing solutions and technology. Sonic is now offering the Sonic MyDVDT, DVDit!T and DVD Fusion applications to OEMs for bundle with DVD-recorders, CD-recorders, video editing solutions and video capture cards. In addition to offering complete and customized applications, Sonic is also offering its AuthorScriptT DVD publishing API as part of the Open Authoring Initiative - enabling OEMs to incorporate DVD authoring and recording technology directly into their PC and Macintosh application.

"With the debut of truly affordable DVD recorders this year, we are seeing the arrival of the laser printer of video," said Mark Ely, Vice President of Business Development at Sonic Solutions. "Since 1996, Sonic has been working to deliver DVD authoring and publishing solutions to the Hollywood, Corporate, Educational, and Desktop DVD production markets. With the arrival of the new low-cost DVD recorders and our close collaboration with the leading hardware and software vendors in this space, we are now able to bring our leading technology to an even broader market."

Sonic Expands Sales Organization and OEM Account Management

Sonic has doubled its OEM support infrastructure in order to maintain superior OEM pre- and post-sales engineering, marketing, and sales support. This has included dramatic expansions to OEM account management, OEM engineering quality assurance, OEM logistics management, software engineering and sales.

A key addition to Sonic's OEM team is Michael Downs. Mr. Downs has joined Sonic as Director of OEM Sales Worldwide after successfully holding key positions in sales and marketing at Ligos Technology, Ulead, Tektronics and others. Mr. Downs has a deep understanding of DVD-video and audio technologies and in the ways in which consumers access, edit, and publish video. As director of OEM sales for Sonic, Mr. Downs is a key addition to Sonic's already substantial OEM sales organization.

"We are extremely pleased to have such a strong addition to the Sonic sales team," said Bob Doris, President of Sonic Solutions. "Michael has broad experience and has shown an intuitive understanding of our market and our OEM customers. He has proven to be a major asset to our company already."
