Adaptec, INC., Names Former Universal Studios Executive Christopher Gorog to Lead New Software Subsidiary
MILPITAS, Calif., September 11, 2000 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), announced the appointment of Christopher Gorog as President and Chief Executive Officer and Tom Shea as Chief Operating Officer of its newly formed software subsidiary Roxio, Inc. Gorog, who will report to Bob Stephens, President and Chief Executive Officer of Adaptec, will assume his position as CEO effective September 11th.

Gorog brings 22 years of diverse entertainment experience to Roxio. He comes to the company from Universal Studios where, as President of New Business Development for the company's Recreation Group, he initiated and led the execution of its strategic plan for global expansion. Gorog also managed the team responsible for new product development as well as creating the division's international market entry strategies. Prior to joining Universal, he served as CEO of the worldwide production company ITC Entertainment Group. During his tenure, Gorog led a management buy-out of the Group and ITC became the number one producer of network television movies and mini-series. Prior to ITC, Gorog was Vice President Business Affairs Motion Pictures and Television for the Walt Disney Company. Most recently, Gorog participated in the acquisition of Universal's concert division by HOB Entertainment, Inc. Gorog is a director of HOB, a leading North American concert producer and owner of HOB.com, the largest live music site on the Internet.

As Chief Operating Officer of Roxio, Shea will oversee the operations of a company he was instrumental in creating. Shea brings 13 years of engineering and general management experience to Roxio. He served as Vice President and General Manager of Adaptec's Software Products Group from March 1996 through February 1998, and from April 1999 until the present. In this role, Shea spearheaded Adaptec's leading position in the CD recordable software market and was responsible for a number of key acquisitions, including CeQuadrat and Wild File, Inc. Under Shea's leadership the company's CD recording products--Easy CD Creator for Windows and Toast for Macintosh--have grown to be the top-selling CD recording software products on the market, and are now the flagship offerings of Roxio.
