Sonic DVDit! Named Most Innovative Product
of the Year
DVDit! Wins Vanguard Award by Video Systems
Las Vegas, Nevada (January 12, 2000) -- Sonic Solutions
announced today that Sonic DVDit! was named the "Most
Innovative Product of the Year" by the editors of Video
Systems magazine, the premier resource for information on
video tools, techniques and technologies for the creative
video professional. The award, and Sonic DVDit!, are featured
in the current issue of the magazine.
Every year Video Systems recognizes certain products that
its editors and writers have selected as the most innovative
new product to be introduced to the video market, and which
they believe bring important new capabilities to the video
production industry. Some 85 products are nominated for the
award, and 13 Video Systems editors and writers cast their
votes to select the final winners.
"In our opinion, of all the DVD authoring tools that
hit the market this past year, Sonic DVDit! stood out from
the crowd for its high quality and low cost," said Stephen
Porter, editor of Video Systems. "It is no surprise that
DVDit! is rapidly gaining support from such vendors as Avid,
Matrox, Media 100 and NEC, all of which have chosen to bundle
their own products with this powerful and practical DVD tool."
"Sonic DVDit! makes publishing on DVD a very intuitive
process. The simplified interface packs tremendous power,"
said Thomas Giebink, Founder of NoNothing Arts, a video and
digital media production company based in Austin, Texas and
a Matrox DigiSuite DTV user. "With DigiSuite DTV and
DVDit! we have been able to rapidly turn our videos into DVD,
or short duration 'DVD on CD-R'. The improvement in video
and audio quality over VHS cassette is eye and ear boggling!
Clearly, DVD is the future and it's here - now! DVDit! has
enabled us to catch the wave and we're riding to substantial
business success. It's a flat-out great product."
"We're excited that Sonic DVDit! has been recognized
as the most innovative product of the year," said James
Manning, DVDit! Product Marketing Manager at Sonic Solutions.
"Customer response to DVDit! has been nothing short of
phenomenal, and it's very rewarding to be recognized with
this critical acclaim, as well."
About Sonic DVDit!
Sonic Solutions' DVDit! is the easiest way to publish
on DVD. Combining a simple and straightforward user interface
with Sonic's award-winning DVD multiplexing technology, DVDit!
gives video professionals, graphic designers, artists and
video enthusiasts the power to create stunning interactive
DVD content on their PC.
DVDit! is compatible with AVI video files, allowing users
to incorporate virtually any video content - from DV to D1
- into DVDit! projects. With a simple drag-and-drop interface,
building DVD titles is as easy as selecting a menu background
and then dragging and dropping an AVI file. DVDit! automatically
builds buttons and interactivity, transcodes video to MPEG-2,
multiplexes and formats content for playback in consumer set-top
DVD players or DVD-equipped PCs.
The first version of DVDit! to ship - DVDit! LE (Limited
Edition) - is now used with some of the world's leading nonlinear
video editing systems as a way to create exciting, simple-to-use
DVD titles. DVDit! SE builds on this technology and is available
either as an upgrade to DVDit! LE users or for purchase as
a separate product. DVDit! SE offers additional functionality
to that available in DVDit! LE including multiple menus and
integrated MPEG-2 software transcoding from AVI files.
Sonic has also announced DVDit! PE (Professional Edition),
which will build on DVDit! SE, adding features previously
found only on authoring systems costing five to ten times
as much including: multi-angle video, multiple audio streams,
motion-video menus and an integrated timeline for easy video
and audio editing. Sonic has also added integrated DVD-R support
into all versions.
Sonic DVDit! LE began shipping in August of this year. Sonic
DVDit! SE has a suggested U.S. list price of $499 and is currently
shipping. Sonic DVDit! PE adds a rich set of features to the
elegantly straightforward DVDit! SE user interface, making
professional DVD production approachable in a way never before
possible. DVDit! PE will carry a suggested retail price of
$2,999 and is scheduled to ship in the first quarter of 2000.
