Consumer Products Group (Roxio)

Professional Products Group
Sonic's Professional Products Group (PPG) develops professional authoring systems used in the release of a wide variety of video entertainment including major motion pictures on DVD-Video, DVD-ROM, HD DVD and Blu-ray disc. Sonic's world-renowned Scenarist® authoring and CineVision™ video and audio encoding systems are intended for highly skilled professional content creation facilities including high-end authoring and design houses, major motion picture studios, and disc replicators. Sonic's Professional Products Group takes a leading role and is actively involved in the development and implementation of new entertainment standards and formats. PPG uses its in-depth understanding of emerging technologies to develop first-to-market solutions for Hollywood and mass consumer release formats such as CD and DVD. Core technologies developed for the professional market play a key role in Sonic's "Hollywood to Home" strategy and are used by Sonic's Advanced Technology Group and Consumer Products Group (Roxio) as the underlying technology for leading-edge applications for consumers and technology partners.

Advanced Technology Group
Sonic's Advanced Technology Group develops digital media technologies and playback and recording engines that are licensed by leading tech firms such as Broadcom, GE Medical, Microsoft, Adobe, Scientific Atlanta, and Sony to create rich media experiences on a broad range of consumer electronics, mobile devices, set-top players, retail kiosks and PCs. Based on the world's most widely tested and deployed media burning engine, AuthorScript® and CinePlayer™ Navigator offer proven reliability, compatibility, and support for both standard and high-definition optical media. Sonic's Advanced Technology Group is also responsible for the development of Qflix, which provides a comprehensive technology platform and licensing and certification program for the electronic sell-through of video content that can be burned to DVD.

The Qflix™ program - Offers a new means for content owners to release titles for custom production and sale over the Internet while maintaining the same level of copy protection used on commercially mass-produced DVDs. Sonic's Qflix program provides essential technology and IP for both the professional and consumer market. For professional and enterprise manufacturing of DVDs "on demand," the Qflix program allows production facilities to reduce the cost of carrying physical inventory while simultaneously offering extensive catalogs of content. The program also enables retailers to broaden the number of movies by augmenting physical product with on-demand DVD creation kiosks in their stores. For consumers, the Qflix program provides a long-awaited downloading and burning solution for movies and premium video content in computers and consumer electronic devices such as set-top boxes, networked DVD recorders, and DVRs.
